Do you still pray for me I wonder
You had long since realized it was pointless
But even as I continued to drag you down and under
You kept on treating what we shared as ageless
No matter how many times we broke each others’ hearts
I kept a memory of you locked inside a tiny box
And our lives just persisted to fall apart
Until all that remained was pain crashing against coastal rocks
The tide has come and gone
And long ago that ship had sailed
Yet recollections of you rest at the distant base of dawn
Haunting me like an unthinkable actuality unveiled
But looking at each other causes nothing but irritation
Remembrance is sweeter than reality
Aspirations for us are just quixotic fabrications
And we’re left with remorseless finality.
