sitting on a park bench
in Melbourne, Australia
pissing away another day

a short, brunette approached me
jogging down the path
she looked good
in these tight shorts and a t shirt

“hey,” she said with a smile
as she passed me by

I nodded back to her
and after she was gone
I hissed, “OH, GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!”

ten minutes later
this tall blonde on roller blades
came gliding by

“hiya,” she squeaked, fading off.

“OH, MAN!” I growled

socking a hard right fist
into the palm of my left

I was so lonesome for a girl at the time
that even kind words
from beautiful strangers

felt like soft kicks in the stomach.
