the girls are bathing in moonshine,
whistling fairy tales,
braiding their dreams into old radio signals,
while the boys drink out of wooden cups,
spitting their splinters into black holes,
tipping over hindu cows,
hijacking low frequencies,
and telling lies in Burmese,
so that way they don’t count,
but the girls know how to count the cracks in the sky,
and this is where they hide their youth,
they are afraid their voices will flicker out,
because the boys like to use them to light their cigarettes,
they smoke their beauty without filters,
while they go hunting for other suns,
but only return with new freckles,
the girls know these freckles are really stars,
and begin to build galaxies so they can live in them,
they connect the dots while the boys sleep,
the boys wake up floating in space,
the girls lost in their skin,
never to be found again,
splintered into radio waves.
